For Maria

With the blessing of her husband Rob and her family, we will be collecting money to support their efforts to retrieve and repatriate Maria’s body.

The cost alone to bring her down from the mountain to Kathmandu is estimated at US$27,000. The cost to repatriate her body to Australia is currently unknown.

Please visit our For Maria page, formaria.stmichaelsnc.com.au for more information and to donate. You can also transfer money from you PayPal account to ours: formaria@stmichaelsnc.com.au.

Thank you.

Maria Strydom

From St Michael’s Netball club Committee:

We are shocked and saddened to hear about the loss of our friend Maria. She passed away during her attempt to climb Mt Everest on May 21st 2016.

Maria has been an invaluable member of our club for 10 years.

She was an incredibly generous person, who volunteered to be a member of committee and also treasurer. It is because of people like her that clubs like ours are able to function.

She was a current player in two of our teams, and continued to support the club even after her years of contributing on the committee.

She was a great friend, teammate and community member and she will be greatly missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Maria’s husband Robert, and the rest of her family. Also in our thoughts is Eric Arnold, another climber who also passed away during the descent.

We pray for the safe journey of the others in their climbing group.
